Coldplay - Color Stripe T-Shirt

Coldplay t-shirt with pictures of band members in a color stripe on the front.

I still remember the "dances" in the gym when I was a tenth-grader in school. They were excruciating affairs; girls animatedly chattering on one side of that big room, boys squinting silently at the girls from the other. No dancing. No talking. Vague, compelling inner churnings and urges, but no action.

My mother and father loved to dance, but had no outlet. In our house, just outside a tiny western New York state town, they sometimes waltzed in the living room. I remember them as quite graceful together, doing their ballroom steps in the lamp-light.

As for me, I showed no evidence of dance-ability in my youth. I was shy, physically awkward after an early bout of polio, and very self-conscious.

Fast forward to 1968.

I was your friendly anchorman on the evening local television news. I reported all over the south, mostly following the swirling civil rights battles that flared in small and large towns alike. I interviewed Ralph Abernathy and Dr. Martin Luther King, and I watched history up close and personal.

Most of the civil rights demonstrations began with gatherings at the local black churches. This skinny white journalist from the north stood in churches packed shoulder-to-shoulder with brave black people, their faces hopeful and intensely alive, who swayed and sang gospel songs, knowing they would soon be beaten and jailed.

When they sang and swayed, I swayed with them. It was in those churches that I began to feel connected to my body in any form of movement-as-expression.

Then there was the 'counterculture'... free-love hippies, marijuana smokers, vastly talented musicians. They certainly knew how to move and dance.

I covered this culture, too, short-haired, in a coat and tie. I didn't dance, but I watched. And I like to think it all finally penetrated my tight self, like WD-40 on a seized-up part. The black churches, the hippies, the incredible music of the times finally got into me.

I quit the TV job, and someone turned me on to marijuana. Well yes, I had to move then. And sing. And begin to learn about love. And I started to dance.

It was free-form rock and roll dancing. The music carried me away, and I found, to my delight, that I had a talent and love for dancing.

Fast forward to 1992 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

I was a marriage counselor in private practice (No, I never went back to broadcasting), and I still loved to dance. In Santa Fe, that meant doing the country two-step, waltz and swing.

I had discovered that, unlike those times at the gym at high school, I was a pretty popular guy. It wasn't necessarily my sterling personality. I discovered this secret: If you are a man 35 or older who is clean, polite, employed and can dance, you are a rare and precious commodity, and the women will line up to dance with you. I danced at least three nights a week, and it was a blast.

And that was where I met my wife, Betsy. She was one of the women on those dance floors, and we danced for eight years before we ever had a date. I didn't think she was my 'type'. The women who were my type kept turning out to be disasters on two feet, so I finally decided to date outside my type, and there was Betsy.

When we married, we were the last couple on the dance floor with the band at our reception, well after midnight, dancing and dancing.

We sometimes tell people the "eight years dancing before a date" story, and they all go, "Awww... that's so sweet!"

It's more than sweet. Dancing is very intimate, even when you aren't involved or especially friendly off the dance floor. You must feel, anticipate and know each other on a wordless level to be good dancers together. You must be able to lead and follow, to blend, to move quickly or slowly, to synchronize. It's good training for a relationship.

Now that my knees are cranky, we don't dance so much. But we still love it, and when a great band comes to town, we go, and we dance at least one full set. We used to dance three sets, but one is very satisfying now.

So, my friends, get up and dance... good things will happen!

To anyone who did not grow up in the U.S. states of North or South Carolina, or perhaps Virginia or Georgia, Carolina beach music takes some explaining.

Even a southerner such as I, growing up in Alabama, did not realize that there was something called beach music that had little resemblance to, or connection with, the California sound of the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean.

Carolina beach music isn't about surfing or drag racing. It's about dancing at the pavilion in Myrtle Beach, shagging on the sand with your best girl, holding hands and watching the moon rise over Atlantic breakers as the harmonies of The Drifters, the Embers or the Tams drift over the dunes.

Now right now I must stop and explain to my English readers--that is, the possibly shocked citizens and residents of the United Kingdom--that "shagging" as used here does not mean what it you think it does. Here, the shag is the dance that you do to beach music. Shagging means to do the shag.

Carolina beach music goes back to the 1950s. The premier exponent of the style at that time was The Drifters. I've long known and liked the music of The Drifters--"Up On the Roof" is one of my all-time favorite songs--but I just considered it to be rock 'n' roll or perhaps r&b. It took moving to North Carolina to learn that some people considered it part of a separate genre.

Carolina beach music is gentle, sweet, romantic and innocent rock 'n' roll. It celebrates stealing kisses in the back row of the movie theater and couples sharing a blanket in the shade of the boardwalk.

It's no wonder that today, Myrtle Beach has clubs and entire theaters that exist just to showcase the top beach music acts, and that they do a booming business. Without doubt, many of the fans who flock there are recapturing a happy, uncomplicated youth spent cruising the strip and shagging (dance shagging) the night away. But Carolina beach music has a broad appeal, and it would not be surprising to see 20- and 30-somethings finding their way through the doors of those clubs, too.

Don't Panic, Pt. 1

Includes an exclusive live track recorded in Norway: 'Bigger Stronger'.
Customer Review: decent b-sides
"Don't Panic" is a great song, but that's not why you're considering buying this CD; if so, get "Parachutes," the whole album. You're here for the b-sides. Both are live recordings, but they sound very professional. "You Only Live Twice" is a good take on the Bond-movie title song; nicely adapted to fit the band's style, while remaining true to the spirit of the original. "Bigger Stronger" is even better, an aggressive rocker that must have been great in concert. Do these two songs add up to enough to make them worth the price of the single? If you're a big Coldplay fan, then definitely. If you're only a casual fan, you might want to try and hear the songs first, then make a decision.
Customer Review: 4th (and last) single off "Parachutes" really shines
Following "Shiver, "Yellow" and "Trouble", "Don't Panic" is the 4th single off Coldplay's debut CD "Parachutes". This single has 3 tracks and runs 11 min. "Don't Panic" is the lead-off track from the album, and is a 2'17" gem of a song. Starting of gently with Chris on accoustic guitar, the song then drives into the chorus, featuring Coldplay's unofficial motto "We Live in a Beautiful World". One phrase seldom has captured the essence of a band as well as this one. When the song reaches the end, you can't wait to hear it again. Track 2 is a live version of "You Only Live Twice", yes, the title track to the James Bond movie! Coldplay used this song as the set closer on their February US tour. While staying true to the song, Coldplay nevertheless makes it its very own. A great example on how to treat a cover song. Track 3 is a live version of "Bigger Stronger" (which is the lead-off track from their "Blue Room EP"). One can tell that the band has "matured" into the song, and this version is perhaps better than the early studio version. Very enjoyable. Perhaps not as great a single as "Shiver", but definitely a great addition for any Coldplay fan.

In May 2006, information was released to the press and public regarding a song that was cowritten by Elvis Presley. The songs were never published or released until now. Paul Terry King recently announced that he, and Elvis Presley, cowrote the songs titled, 'Rollin' Up Hill' and 'If I'd Only Bought Her Roses', in the fall of 1970.

Paul Terry King, a songwriter of several popular country and pop songs in the 1960s and 1970s, recently submitted a press release specifying details about the songs. Mr. King claims while working with artists at American Recording Studio in Memphis Tennessee, he worked with Elvis Presley, and cowrote two songs titled 'Rollin' Up Hill' and 'If I'd Only Bought Her Roses'. Paul Terry King explains that this was several of many recording sessions, one of which produced the hit song, 'Suspicious Minds'.

Paul Terry King claims that Elvis visited him in Nashville to write other songs, as well. He states that he and Elvis had many conversations about world politics, current events, religion, family and children, marriage and love, and several other subjects.

Mr. King explains that Elvis had an explicit interest in writing music, as well as recording and performing. However, he was unsure about releasing any self published works at the time due to uncertainty as to how well it would do, and how his manager would respond.

However, Mr. King goes on to explain how the songs were created. Elvis came to his home in late 1970. He tells the story that he and Elvis conversed for many hours into the night, and early morning, as several new music works emerged. Mr. King goes on to explain that Elvis was much more talented than people pay him credit. Elvis was a good actor and continued to hope for better and more dramatic roles. He also aspired to develop into a good songwriter as well. The song 'If I'd Only Bought Her Roses', is about a man who desires to have another chance with his only love, and wishes he'd done things differently. Note that it is not hard to imagine Elvis in that certain frame of mind with what he was experiencing in his own personal life.

The other song, 'Rollin' Up Hill', is about overcoming life's obstacles in the midst of a man facing all odds against him. The driving force by which he wins the race is the power of love, which the song clearly communicates.

The song 'Rollin' Up Hill', is the song I was able to hear and sample. There was talk about a Elvis Presley reality series taking place in Las Vegas among various Elvis tribute artists.

The winner receiving prizes and publicity, including the honor of recording the two songs which Elvis cowrote. However, even though the taping of the show was begun in August of 2006, it was not revealed to me the reason why it wasn't finished.

However, the songs were not recorded by any of the Elvis impersonator's who attended the rehearsals in Las Vegas. Instead, the songs were forwarded to, and recorded by, William Riopelle, a former Elvis Presley tribute artist, now living in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

William Riopelle, performed as an Elvis Presley tribute artist for several years and performed many places. Of his many experiences, some of the highlights were performing in Las Vegas in the show Legends In Concert, recording a rockabilly tune at Sun Records in Memphis now called Sam Phillips Recording Studio, and being managed by George Klein, a disc jockey in Memphis Tennessee, who was a very close friend of Elvis Presley. Indeed, George Klein, was Elvis' best man at his wedding, and a pallbearer at his funeral.

George Klein is not a man who typically gets excited about Elvis Presley impersonators. However William Riopelle's talent was so original and unique, that George Klein made an exception in his case.

William Riopelle, who no longer performs as an Elvis Presley tribute artist, has moved on to other things and has since received various science degrees in college, and an advanced degree in physical therapy as well. Indeed, an Elvis Presley Tribute Artist with a brain! William Riopelle once went by the stage name of 'Billy Elvis.'

He is said to have changed his name to Billy Detroit at the advice of George Klein, who urged William not to use the name of 'Elvis' in his own name. George Klein believed in Mr. Riopelle's talent enough to get a songwriter to write a demo song for him and request a free recording session from Sam Phillips, the man who discovered Elvis Presley at Sun Records Recording Studio in Memphis Tennessee in 1954. Although the recordings were heard by various recording labels, ultimately they rejected William Riopelle's works due to the fact that he sounded "too close to Elvis Presley" and they thought the public was not ready, or interested, in an Elvis sound alike.

However, since Elvis Presley's popularity has not shown any signs of decreasing over the years, and has even increased, the interest in an authentic Elvis Presley sound alike may be beginning to emerge.

Indeed, the public would certainly be interested in hearing a song which Elvis Presley cowrote. I believe the public would be interested in anything that Elvis Presley wrote.

Although there are Presley insiders who would validate Paul Terry King's story, there are others who would disdain it. Like any controversial story regarding Elvis Presley, it is very likely that you will once again have to be the judge.

A sample of the song 'Rollin' Up Hill', has been made available for free, and can be heard on the Internet by Paul Terry King. Details about listening to the song can be found in the resource box below.

Information about how to listen to a portion of the song, Rollin' Up Hill, can be located at http://www.searchforelvis.com/rollinuphill.htmlJonathon Bates is a writer, and publicist for various news and entertainment outlets.

One of the more fascinating styles is the Turkish belly dance. The dance music is characterized by the sounds of the oboe, clarinet, kanoon, finger cymbals and hand drums. Turkish dance costumes are among the more risqu of the cabaret styles, baring plenty of leg and cleavage. Similar to Greek and Armenian it is usually faster than Egyptian dance music, and often there are less rhythmic changes. Turkish belly dancers spread their traditional dance around the wider world, and enchanted their audiences when they appeared on dance stages in countries from America to Argentina; from the Arabian Peninsula to England and from Japan to Italy.

Turkish belly dance has been at least 500 years of history. The most important influence on it came from the Roma (Gypsies) people of Turkey. Today this style of dancing often struggles against the morals of a Muslim country but is generally still accepted because of its deep history. As artists they dare to see how far they can take sensuality into sexuality. The costumes consist of a bra, a belt and a skirt. Among current designs, hip accentuation's are built directly onto the skirt in lieu of a belt.

Turkish belly dance is something that is quite closely related to that of the cabaret style and is recognizable in that reference. The dresses that are usually used in this form of dance are quite embellished and adorned with different sorts of glittering objects such as jewels and beads. Turkish Belly dance is a dance style with a long and significant history in Turkey. It has exerted a considerable influence on the development of modern American cabaret style belly dance. A good description is that it is very earthy, and tends to have more weighted and even suggestive moves.

As you become aware of the many facets of oriental dance, keep in mind that there is no specific style considered right, or correct. All of the various styles are beautiful, inspirational and can elevate our thinking and even ourselves to a higher level. As you learn to dance it is up to you to develop the style, the expression and moves that most reflect your inner being. The only way to know this is to expose yourself to as many styles as you can. If you make sure you study with the best teachers and use the best tools you will find that your expression of this wonderful dance will shine through and entice those who have come to watch you dance.

Customer Review: Awesome guitarists!
This CD has the max 'WOW' factor!! It is unbelievable there are only two artists. If you love acoustic guitar and rythmic percussion, you'll love this music as much as I do. The DVD is very interesting, too. A nice addition, especially for anyone who has not seen them in person. I'm looking forward to another CD release.
Customer Review: incredible artistry
Although it's not my favorite collection of theirs, this is a wonderful example of their artistry - I especially like the way they can take a metal or hard rock song and make it their own as they do on 2 separate tracks here. These two are incredible artists.

If you're browsing the internet in search of a satellite radio service for the US and Canada, then you need only check two websites: Sirius and XMRadio. These two giants are your only options and yet you'll notice striking similarities between the two websites' design, the product pricing and the programmer's stations.

Rumors have been flying around that Sirius and XM will form a ground-breaking merger this year, uniting all 14+ million customers under one banner. However, as of right now, you'll need to know what makes each slightly unique.

Country Music Fans may favor the XM Radio satellite service, which provides listeners with two extra stations - one focusing on Americana Country like Robert Plant or Blackfoot, and the other focusing on Folk Country like Tim Garrison and The Nitty Gritty Band. Both stations have country music from the 80s and 90s, new country, bluegrass and classic country.

Christian Music Fans may favor XM one. This service includes one more Christian music channel than Sirius - in addition to Christian Pop / Rock and Gospel, XM also hosts a Southern Gospel channel with Gold City, Greater Vision and The McKarneys.

Electronic Music Fans will prefer the Sirius service if they'd like a Breakbeat/Old SKool station, in addition to the usual Trance/Progressive stations that both satellite radio services provide. XM has exclusive rights to acclaimed BPM, but Sirius has a special Dance Hits station.

Rock Music Fans will probably prefer Sirius. While XM provides four different "alternative radio" stations, a punk station, a heavy metal station, a jam bands station, a college indie station and three classic rock stations, Sirius gives subscribers roughly 23 stations with everything that XM's service has -- plus New Wave, Glam Metal, Jimmy Buffet, Grateful Dead, Elvis, Canadian rock, UK rock, Garage, 60s Rock, 70s Rock and an additional punk/ska station.

World Music Fans will find that both service providers offering two French stations, but Spanish-speaking subscribers will find XM the better option, since they offer Rock En Espanol, Regional Mexican, Latin Pop, Latin Jazz, Hispanic Rhythmic and Spanish AC. Sirius, on the other hand, has only one Spanish music station for Latin Pop. Additionally, XM has a station for African and a business station in Italian.

Rap and Hip Hop Fans may prefer XM because their service focuses on more Soul and Funk, along with uncensored Hip Hop and Urban Contemporary -- unless they're big Slim Shady fans, in which case they may need Sirius Radio's Eminem station.

In some ways, XM Radio caters to the aging population with Good Morning America, Casey Casem's Top 40 Countdown, Theme Time with Bob Dylan and Wolfman Jack. On the other hand, Sirius Radio goes after the 20-somethings crowd with Bam Marguera, Howard Stern, Jamie Foxx and Tony Hawk shows. However, both satellite radio service providers are likely to give you something you can enjoy.

Sports Fans will find many similarities in XM and Sirius service options. For instance, both providers have ESPN, Nascar and NHL exclusives, as well as both college and NFL football. XM gives better golf / PGA Tour coverage and Fox Sports, while Sirius gives better NBA coverage. On XM, catch shows with Jimmy Johnson, Dale Jr, Coach K, James Carville, Luke Russert and Cal Ripkin.

With the Delphi SkiFi2 radio, you can get a sports ticker to show game scores on your display screen and the SportsCaster comes with 30 sports presets programmed in. However, Sirius gives you game alerts, 30 presets and lists all your favorite teams in one category with the Sportster and Streamer satellite radios. Additionally, get exclusive programming with Jerry Rice, Daryl Johnston, Randy Cross, Adam Schein, Shannon Sharpe, Ray Evernham, Tony Stewart, Rick Ackerman and Frank Isola.

Whichever satellite radio service you prefer, you'll be surprised to find that both are competitively priced at $13/month and most of the radio components cost from $20 - $200. However, which ever service you choose for now, you will still need to purchase a satellite radio receiver and luckily, most of the satellite radios will work in your home and in your car.

Get all the information you need on the satellite radio service providers from Mike Selvon's portal, and leave a comment at his satellite radio network blog.

If ballroom dancing is a past time of yours that you enjoy but you suffer from a verruca, then you will understand the importance of wearing the right shoes. However, even though the right footwear is worn on the feet it is still no guarantee there will be no discomfort. Treatment is needed so that you may continue in upping your performance on the dance floor like that of Mr Gene Kelly. If your dancing has been put on hold because of this problem, then speak with your doctor for advice on how to ease the discomfort so that you can dance again.

A verruca (plantar wart) is a type of wart found on the lower limb (sole of the foot). It is no different to that of a common wart as we know them - but because of the body weight pressing down onto the verruca it then becomes painful and sore. The appearance of this foot wart - is slightly raised and round with a thickened edge of surrounding skin. Other signs and strong points to look out for - to decipher this type of verruca is that of fine tiny black dots. It is not uncommon to find a cluster of them to appear all together.

A mound/clump or clusters of small warts are referred to as 'mosaic warts' - these you will be happy to hear are usually painless. If you are a concerned parent and worried about the children developing warts then do not worry because, this type of verruca in minors - tend to appear and then disappear. I don`t want to burst any ones bubble but warts on adults can persist for a long time (years) if left unattended (not treated).
Just like other warts, a verruca can stem from the strains of the papillomavirus.

Do not be alarmed but papillomavirus is present in huge amounts on a vast majority of different humans which is carried on the surface of their skin. This will not cause any harm or cause problems unless it pierces the skin. Unhealthy and neglected skin e.g. skin with fine cracks on the surface may well be the likely place for this to happen.

There is no real proven guarantee that a verruca is picked up in swimming pools as a great many people are led to believe. In saying that, there is without a doubt plenty of papillomavirus around swimming pools etc, particularly so in the shower area. Remember you are very unlikely to get a verruca if your skin is without flaws. A good idea to minimize any risk if this is a big worry for you is, to consider wearing flip-flops or open sandals in the shower.

If those dancing shoes are left on the shelf for to long - you may just forget how to tango or rumba. Some good advice is to pop along to the doctor so that he/she can check you over. Try not swap shoes.

Fix You

The Second Single from the Band's Chart Topping Third Album "x&y" Includes a Live Version of "Poor Me" and the NON-LP "World Turned".
Customer Review: Coldplay Does It Again
Coldplay Has Another AMAZING SINGLE. Fix You is a great song starting with Chris and his piano. Soon the rest of the band kicks in and rocks the rest of the song. THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN: This song is the highlight of the b-sides and starts off with the words X and Y. From there the song gets better. POUR ME: ANother good song from Coldplay that is heavy. This song would be better not live.
Customer Review: An alright single
You've probably heard "Fix You" by now so I won't spend any time commenting on it. I would like to give my own 2cents on the B-sides. I don't agree with the other reviewers here that "The World Turned Upside Down" should've made it onto X&Y. It sounds great until the chorus comes in. At that point it goes from being great to barely mediocre. It's like they put in the first chorus that came to mind instead of coming up with something catchy and original. They succeeded in doing this on X&Y and that's why this song is a b-side and not on the album. "Pour Me" is an alright track but nothing to write home about. It's also live so that takes away from the quality of the recording. Hope this review helps. BTW if you're looking for a good b-side, pick up the single for "Speed of Sound" because "Things I Don't Understand" is an excellent b-side and almost DID make it onto the album.

Thailand truly is a tourist's dream, with Bangkoks overwhelming nightlife and just so much to do. The citys nightlife was just amazing and had so much to offer to its visitors. Bangkok alone is home to a few dozen discos, almost 100 GoGo bars, hundreds of karaoke bars, and literally thousands of pubs and cafes.

Bangkok has so much more to offer tourists and travelers than its reputation for girls and the bars of Patpong, Soi Cowboy, and Nana "Entertainment" Plaza. The experience was enjoyable and fun. The city is unrivaled for its variety of nightlife. Throbbing clubs like Lucifers and The Talisman, live music, bowling, ice skating, dinner shows featuring Thai classical dance and sword play, dinner cruises on the Chao Phya River in an old teak rice barge, and Thai boxing bouts at Lumpini Stadium

The city's bars, pubs and clubs runs range from sidewalk stalls overflowing with cheap beer and whiskey, to California-chic clubs like the Q bar and ultra-packed nightclubs full of bouncing, middle class Thai university students and expats. Royal City Avenue is a whole street of huge clubs the size of aeroplane hangars, packed with teenagers, jumping around to dance versions of Thai pop.

Bangkok nightlife has a reputation for being wild and rowdy. But at the same time it's relaxed, safe, enjoyable and great fun to be part of it. The city is fast trying to established itself as Asia's capital of cool. Bangkok's diverse nightlife scene features everything from excellent live music and good jazz clubs to ultra cool bars, trendy clubs and great restaurants

Many critics and writers opine that Gypsy Broadway's greatest musical masterpiece would not have been what it was without the exceptional acting talents of Ethel Merman. They bring out the fact that as a mother the aggressive and tyrannical yet likably understood character of Rose strongly portrayed by her was absolutely perfect. The success of Gypsy was mainly because of her and also because of its hilarious choreography. Ethel Merman was central to Gypsy in more ways than one. She was gifted with a booming voice and her brash personality was eminently suited for the stage-obsessed character of Rose.

It was then incredible that Ethel Merman lost out to Sound Of Music's Mary Martin when the turn to receive the Tony Awards came. Many critics consider this error by the judges of the Tony awards as the most idiotic one. The above original production of Gypsy debuted on Broadway on May 21, 1959 at the Broadway Theatre. It then moved on to the Imperial Theatre and ran a total of 702 performances in all, excluding the 2 previews. A high point of Gypsy was its direction and choreography both by Jerome Robbins. Although not destined to be a dance show, Robbins added charm to the plot by weaving in the vaudeville and burlesque styles of choreography into it. These were considered the most lingering aspects that gripped the minds of its audiences as they came out of the theatre.

Produced by David Merrick and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy the musical received a total of 8 Tony Award nominations, yet surprisingly failed to win any. The show closed in March 1961. Gypsy was loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and focus on her mother Rose. The book was written by Arthur Laurents. Rose is the ultimate mother in show business. The plot revolves around the dream of Rose, and her efforts, to bring up her two daughters so they could become stage artistes. It portrays the trials and tribulations that a career in show business involves.

Gypsy contained a total of 17 songs in two Acts. Of them, Small World, You'll Never Get Away From Me, Let Me Entertain You, and Everything's Coming Up Roses became popular standards. Further revivals of Gypsy on Broadway occurred in 1974 (120 performances), 1989 (476 performances), 2003 (451 performances). Besides these, a current revival of Gypsy Broadway's multiple reincarnated musical show is on the cards. The latest reincarnation began at the St. James Theatre on March 27, 2008 with Patti Lupone in the lead role as Rose. Although, Gypsy Broadway's moneyspinner through its many reincarnations past, present, and future will stay in the minds of people for ever, its spark was really Ethel Merman.

Seeing a show on Broadway, Chicago, or Londons West-End can be the experience of a lifetime. You can open your mind to a whole new world of culture and experiences. That's why we have reviewed some of the top shows around from long running performances to newly opened. We also look at ways to secure discounted tickets. Landing Lights
