Music Review of YogaMotion - White Swan Yoga Masters Volume 4

Lauren Peterson, another nationally recognized yoga practitioner and teacher, meticulously crafted Yoga Motion: White Swan Yoga Masters Vol. 4, as a sacred blend of male and female energies. Lauren is one of the few advanced (Fourth Series) ashtanga yoga practitioners in the United States. She has been featured in many magazines including Yoga Journal, as well as on television in the PBS series Healing Quest. If you're familiar with Dance Wave or Sweat Your Prayers events, you will readily appreciate the fabulous selection of music Lauren made for Yoga Motion. Starting with the slow, sensuous "Invocation to Water" by Shaman's Dream, by the third track, "Partner World" by Mass Ensemble, you'll be dancing like there's no tomorrow.

Of course, you may choose to do yoga or other forms of movement instead of dance with this incendiary collection of songs, but dance is my thing. "Napas," the next track, by Mercan Dede, continues the intense, even outrageous world beat groove. But then, a few tracks later, Jai Uttal and Ben Leinbach slow things down a bit with "Mahadeva." Before this exquisite CD concludes, we're treated to Prem Joshua and Manish Vyas doing "Habibi" and Deva Premal singing "Guru Rinpoche Mantra" as only she can. In short, Yoga Motion: White Swan Yoga Masters Vol. 4 takes the listener on a most extraordinary journey. With over 77 minutes of music, by the time you're finished moving your body to this delicious selection of tracks, you'll be ready for a break.

As is often the case with great compilations, one of the joys of Yoga Motion is the opportunity to get to know some terrific artists who you might not otherwise get to hear. I urge you to spend some time soon with the exotic, over-the-top joy of Yoga Motion: White Swan Yoga Masters Vol. 4.

Guitar Humidification

Problems with humidity can lead to heartbreak for the classical (or other) guitarist. Excessive humidity or dryness can ruin an instrument probably quicker than you think.

You must always be aware of what conditions you are leaving your instrument, whether inside a guitar case or within a room or in the open. They should NEVER be left in the sun for any length of time.

When guitars are built they are usually in an environment where the relative humidity of the room is kept constant, roughly around 50%.

To be safe you ideally should keep your instrument around this mark though they are generally regarded as safe between 40%-70% as the upper and lower margins. Below or above this can be drastic for your instrument!

An interesting example of anecdotal evidence of problems with humidity I've heard is with Ramirez guitars.

Because they're made in Spain where the humidity is often above the 50% mark and are shipped to areas where the humidity is much lower with dry winter conditions, they can easily develop cracks and slits throughout the guitar.

Having made an investment for such a beautiful guitar youd be mad not to invest in a relatively cheap system for keeping the humidity of your guitar constant, like a guitar humidifier case for example.

The damage caused by too much humidity or of drying out your instrument can range from cracks, splits and shrinkage to warping and even snapping of the wood.

There are many things you can do to prevent problems from the start. You know the old saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

I would recommend keeping your house, or wherever you keep your instrument, at a constant temperature and humidity all year round.

Next I would get a humidifier for my guitar case, whether one sold commercially which releases moisture slowly and attaches to the inside of your case, or a home-made one which could consist of a wet cloth (be careful not to let it touch your instrument as it may damage the wood).

Another thing to invest in is a "hygrometer", which is an instrument that will keep track of humidity, or lack of it in your guitar case. As mentioned above, some guitar cases are made with these things as standard.

If you follow these few simple rules and keep an eye out for changes in temperature and humidity conditions it shouldn't be hard to keep your instrument in good order.

Trevor Maurice is an Australian, living in beautiful seaside Maroubra, in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.

He's been involved in playing guitar (mainly classical) for longer than he cares to remember and has also taught the instrument for many years. He is teacher trained, having a Diploma of Education (Majoring in music)

He has also taught Primary (Elementary) school for many years and had a long-held dream to build a quality website for the classical guitar that is of use to anyone even slightly interested in this beautiful instrument. He has now made that dream a reality with the highly rated...

Music, Culture, and Reality

A psychoactive is defined as that which has a profound or significant affect on the mental processes. Although typically used in the context of drugs and substances, this concept is often extended to anything evoking a seemingly 'mystical experience.' What people describe as mystical experiences are indistinguishable, neurologically and empirically, from deep and poignant religious experiences. Moments of oneness and insight are typical in both cases. In "The Varieties of Religious Experience (1902)," William James describes mystical experiences as ineffable, noetic, passive (rather, a sense of loss of control), and fleeting. From the remote mystics of Sufism and Kabbalah, to modern day 'urban shamans,' psychonauts have sought methods other than imbibement to investigate the cosmos within. Through meditation, breath control, lucid dreaming, sensory deprivation, and a host of other methods, music has stood among cultures in this service probably since early man first danced around campfires.

Ethnomusicolgist Gilbert Rouget explores the connection between music and trance throughout history. Perhaps music is more than simply a mortal construct, rather having cosmic significance. Playing music (and truly appreciating music) forces an individual to focus on the present moment, which in turn is the cornerstone of meaningful experience. This emphasis on the present moment is the consummation of all other psychonautical resources (mediation, entheogens, etc.). Subscribers of the shamanic and mystical often view the passage of time as an illusion of the human mind, and regard a 'perpetual now' as true reality. Interestingly this is where science begins to align with the esoteric.

Quantum Mechanics argues that particles move backwards as well as forwards in time and appear in all possible places at once. String theory proposes that the physical world is composed of little, tiny strings of vibrating energy (It seems appropriate to allude to chordophones). Terrence McKenna, recounting a DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) induced experience, asserts that the constant dance of 'machine elves,' (entities occupying a parallel world) creates reality as we perceive it. Are the rhythms of music akin to the language of reality? Is music a method of staying in contact with the underlying 'Logos,' being the true virtue in which all things exist? Whether it be Spring's hymn of birds and bees or the elegant, geometrical dance of our physical world, music plays the universal tongue in a reality seemingly ripe with babbling discord.

All You Can Hear - Different Ringtone Genres

It may come as a surprise for people who are not very involved in personalizing their mobile phones that choosing a ringtone can be a very tiresome and confusing task. Why? Because of the sheer amount of choices that a mobile phone user has to wade through in order to get the ringtone that he wants.

First of all, he has to consider what type of ringtone he wants to use. Does he want the old school monotone ringtone that was made popular by the early Nokia mobile phones? These are the ringtones that play melodies one note after the other. He may also choose a polyphonic ringtone, which is a more melodic choice compared to the drab monotone ringtone. Of course, if his mobile phone is capable of supporting it (which most new models can) he can opt to use music ringtones, which are actual pre-recorded pieces of the actual music. This is the best available ringtone type out there and is the acknowledged favorite, especially among people who really love music.

Having gone through the ringtone types, the choice just gets wider. There are so many companies online that are specializing in bringing ringtones to your mobile phone that each one would offer unique ringtones that would catch the attention of consumers and hopefully entice them to buy the ringtone. But aside from the many companies out there, a mobile phone user has to choose from so many available genres of ringtones available, especially those for music ringtones. The choices are so varied and so many that one would be hard pressed to choose which ones a mobile phone user would like to install on his phone as a ringtone.

Some of the most popular ringtone genres are:

Funny ringtones - These are ringtones with an obvious comedy bent. These could be hilarious one liners, missives or dialogues. It is not uncommon to hear funny ringtones that try to parody certain scenes in famous movies or TV shows or maybe even funny sounds.

Bollywood ringtones - These ringtones are all about the magic that is brought by Indian films. Indian films are a strange and wonderful film genre. The formula that Indian films follow are quite different. Whether it be drama, comedy or even action, a movie will not be complete without song and dance numbers. Most Indians believe that a movie without this element makes it incomplete. These fun-filled Bollywood songs are now considered as great ringtones because it exudes the tongue-in-cheek fun and bombastic romp of those crazy Indian films.

Music ringtones - Music is by far the most popular ringtone genre that mobile phone users prefer. Every single person has a particular song or type of music that he loves and these preferences can act as great ringtones. Of course, music ringtones have as many genres as there are different types of music out there. Whether you like pop, rock, reggae, or even classical,, there most likely be a ringtone that you can download or buy online. Based on a recent study, the most popular genre that mobile phone users choose as ringtones are music in the rap/hip hop category.

Philip Nicosia is the webmaster of GetMeRingtones, a site specialising in the different genres of ringtones, including polyphonic ringtones, and MP3 ringtones.

Miss Peru And Miss Universe 1957: 50th Anniversary

On July 19, 1957, Miss Peru, Gladys Zender Urbina, was elected Miss Universe 1957. Site: Long Beach, California (USA).She was the first Latin American woman to win the Miss Universe. Gladys Zender studied art and languages, and at one point she wanted to be an aviator. During her early teenage years, her beauty and personality drew positive comments especially when she won the Reinado de Primavera (Spring Pageant) in her Santa Ursula school, and years later, the Reinado de los Carnavales (Carnival Pageant) of Miraflores. Before being crowned Miss Peru 1957, the representative of Max Factor company, Roman Toporow, while visiting Lima, was impressed by the style and the very Latin features of the young Gladys and affirmed that she was a perfect beauty. In the beginning, her family was opposed to her joining the national pageant, but later they supported her by traveling with her to Long Beach.

During the sixth edition of the Miss Universe pageant, there were all sorts surprises. It was rumoured that the pageant preferred candidates from countries that were experiencing political crisis. However,Miss Greece, Lygia Karavias, did not qualified for the semi-finals. Experts predicted that two favourites Misses Germany and England- would win and keep the crown in Western Europe. Miss Germany, Gerti Daud, was crowned Miss Photogenic Universe.

Some observers believed that the delegates from Brazil (Teresinha Goncalves Morango), Argentina(Monica Lamas), Peru(Gladys Zender), Canada (Gloria Noakes), Italy (Valeria Fabrizzi) and Martinica (Ginette Cidalise-Montaise) would enter the finals. Many of the girls from Latin America thought that they had been invited for the sake of formality only.

There was some sort of uneasiness in the region since two Latin beauties had failed to win in two consecutive finals. In 1954, the Brazilian Maria Martha Marilu Hacker Rocha was adjudged as very beautiful, but her hips were two inches wider than the ideal measurement and thus lost to the American Miriam Stevenson.

In 1955, the huge favourite Miss El Salvador who resembled Marilyn Monroe- lost by two points to Hillevi Rombin of Sweden.

Gladys Zender's victory in Miss Universe pageant had taken the Peruvian and the rest of Latin America by surprise.According to the American press, the traits that made Gladys deserve the title were these: her captivating personality and her aristocratic bearing and that she had been educated in the traditional system of Latin American women In the end, it was her whistlebait figure that won her the crown and beat the beauties from Brazil, England, Cuba and Germany.

During her homecoming on August 10, 1957, a million of her compatriots lined up along the streets to welcome her. When Gladys appeared, the crowd never tired of shouting, Viva Gladys!. I cried with joy. I never imagined this welcome, remarked the beauty queen during an interview.
In 1982 when the Miss Universe pageant was held in Lima, the Miss Universe Organization presented Gladys with a special trophy to honor her 25th coronation anniversary.
Today, Gladys Zender de Meir is a Latin beauty iconan example of Miss Universe.

Reduce Stress Through New Age Piano

You've probably heard it before - the calming, tranquil sounds of New Age piano coming from a gift shop or stereo.

There's something about music, especially New Age music that slows the heart rate down. Listening to this kind of music has many therapeutic effects, but did you know that you could also reduce stress by learning how to play in this style? It's true! And the good news is you don't need years of lessons to begin.

All that is required is knowledge of a few chords and that's it! I've had students tell me that nothing relaxes them more than just sitting at the piano and playing what they feel. They aren't concerned with being perfect or "playing it right." They just want to relax, unwind, and forget about their busy day.

The relaxation and sense of well being that comes from playing the piano in the New Age style is profound. Breathing slows down. Focus is sharpened and heightened as well.

Music is a soothing balm and can be very therapeutic and even more so when you actually create it yourself! Reduce stress and feel a sense of peace while you learn how to play chords and make music. It can be done. And it's very easy to begin.

For instance, in the lesson "Reflections in Water," (available below) you learn how to create a calm, reflective atmosphere using a few chords and the C Major scale. This is something a complete beginner can do and it won't take years, months or weeks. You can improvise and create your own music within hours!

Edward Weiss is a pianist/composer and webmaster of Quiescence Music's online piano lessons. He has been helping students learn how to play piano in the New Age style for over 14 years and works with students in private, in groups, and now over the internet. Polyphonic Ringtones: Calls, Court Cases, and Copyrights

Ringtones are big business. The Yankee Group announced that over the last five years, these musical tones have sent people literally singing to the bank, with a total revenue of $2 billion since 2001, and $50 million in one year alone.

The figures show how popular ringtones have become among cell phone users, who download the files to personalize their caller functions. They can pick from millions of songs, from the latest hit R&B single, to quirky sounds like cows mooing, to the classical pieces of Ludwig van Beethoven. Technological development has also made the audio quality of the ringtones much more realistic. From the ear-piercing, tin-like sounds of the first downloadable tunes, todays music pieces have a near-radio quality. You could dance to it, except youd look pretty silly shaking your booty while taking a call.

Unfortunately, the realistic quality of the musical pieces have raised a few ethical issues, namely violation of copyright. Since the sound of the ringtones and the sound of the actual songs are so close, record companies are saying that they count as reproductionsand because of that, they should pay some kind of royalty to the labels and the singers.

In a celebrated case, rap artist Eminem filed injunctions against five ringtone companies, supposedly because they had used his songs without his prior consent.

Some would argue that the ringtones only use ten seconds, maximum, of the actual song. How long should a snippet be before it becomes copyright infringement? Nokia representative Matthew Courtney believes that it has nothing to do with length. "Every reproduction of a musical excerpt involves payment of copyright fees to the copyright owner," he says.

There are some songs that fall beyond this rule, such as those that fall into public domain: classical pieces, national anthems, and yes, a cow mooing. (To date, there are no records of cows suing any major ringtone company.) Others still require the permission of the artists, and may even be subject to royalty fees.

Luckily most artists are not that inclined to sue, seeing the ringtones as a way of promoting their music, and perhaps a compliment to their own popularity. In a way, being immortalized in a ringtone has become a gauge of how ones music has infiltrated public consciousness. Besides, nobody actually downloads a ringtone as a replacement for an actual record. A real fan would want more than a ten second recording out of a three minute song, although would probably use that snippet to announce to the world, Hey, this tune rocks.

However, trends do indicate that fans may actually be willing to pay for their polyphonic ringtones. Music label EMI representative Jay Samit estimates that the earnings form ringtones could contribute as much as 10% of the record industrys total revenues. Apparently, the appeal of ringtones is that strong people arent just downloading it because its free, but because its a valued feature.

Of course, many polyphonic ringtones still allow people to download the tunes for free, generating their revenue from ads instead. Others use a mixture of the two business models, offering some for free (or a weekly rotating list) while requiring a small download fee for premium ringtones.

Either way, lawsuits notwithstanding, the fact is that ringtones are here to stay.

Polyphonics.eu.com provides fully licensed polyphonic ringtones as well as all the latest real tones.

Nuclear Threat From Mexico

Detonating a nuclear weapon in or over Juarez, Mexico is the same thing as detonating one in El Paso, Texas: The difference is it may be a little easier to effect in Juarez. From the heart of downtown El Paso to downtown Juarez is just a very short distance. Or a bomb on the international bridge dividing the two countries empties into Avenida Jurez in downtown Juarez, on the south and El Paso downtown to the north could do the job and would be easy for any terrorist to pull off. Nowhere else on the planet are two major cities of two different nations so closely tied together and vulnerable - or so easy to visit from either side day or night.

One nuclear weapon placed in Juarez Mexico could kill up-wards of two million people almost half of them Americans living in both El Paso and Juarez.

Just a historical reminder: The atomic bomb named "Little Boy" was dropped on Hiroshima by the Enola Gay, a Boeing B-29 bomber, at 8:15 in the morning of August 6, 1945 - 62 years ago.

Of growing concern to some U.S. officials is the way the terrorists south of the border are taking advantage of the lack of sophistication on the Mexicans part for their inability and unwillingness to protect their own borders from terrorist infiltration and are using the low Mexican immigration standards and the U.S. open border to slip into Mexico or the U.S. with a nuclear weapon or dirty bomb.

Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey told NewsMax in an exclusive interview that terrorists could strike the American homeland - possibly with a weapon of mass destruction.
A terrorist strike with a nuclear, dirty bomb or with biological weapons was "a real possibility." Woolsey's comments echo those of FBI Director Robert Mueller, who told NewsMax that al-Qaeda's paramount goal is clear: to detonate a nuclear device that would kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Tens of millions of radical Muslims, mostly of Arabic descent, live in Latin America.
International law-enforcement authorities combating terrorism have growing concerns about a major influx into Mexico of Arabic-speaking visitors carrying Cuban, Russian, Greece, Holland and other European passports.

Many of the passport holders could not even speak the language of their so-called mother land, according to a secret report given to the Mexican legislators.
Intelligence sources have been warning us that they have noticed a tendency among Islamic terrorists to operate in Mexico. Mexico with a territory slightly bigger than Alaska and with geographic extremes that have proven perfect for hiding bombs, weapons, illegal aliens, and drugs is currently what's going on south of our border.

According to the "INM" (Mex. Immigr.) Just last week six adult male Iraqis were arrested in Tapachula, state of Chiapas, while attempting to reach the Distrito Federal of Mexico and to proceed to the United States from that point. In their preliminary declaration, the six said they entered through Central America, reached Guatemala and that there they purchased the false passports from Greece and Holland which they initially presented to Mexican officials when arrested. They also claimed they crossed the Suchiate River (bordering Mexico and Guatemala) on a raft.

The names on the phony passports were Hristov Eroslavov Dobromir, Mirian Sitkinas, Carlos Harden, Stevan Bergian, Vasileios Venetis and Vasilev Martinov Georgi.
Another two Iraqis with false Bulgarian passports were detected and detained at the airport in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Now, Mexican officials are reportedly investigating "a network that could be made up of Mexicans operating in Greece who is selling false Bulgarian passports for ten thousand dollars to European and Middle Eastern citizens." Last year 28 illegal's from Iraq were detected at the airport in Monterrey alone (El Porvenir said there were 23, seventeen of them in a single event)

The latest two, "Wisam Gorgies", 34 yr. old male, and "Rana Nazar Peyoz", 26 yr. old female, flew from Madrid and said they obtained the false passports in Greece; their aim was to reach the United States.

The Mexican government is very concerned with the up-tick of known Mexican communist party members who are being converted to Islam this arises from recent immigrants who import new radical jihadi philosophies into their ranks. These people are also active in Islamic missionary work converting the poor and destitute with promises of a better life under Islam.
These terrorists are organized in active cells around the country of Mexico according to a Mexican General who wants to remain nameless. I have seen documents describing part of the drug-smuggling cartels cooperation with terrorists using their existing routes though Mexico to the states. Islamic terrorists are paying millions to the Mexicans to transport their drugs from Afghanistan, as well as weapons and people. These elaborate well defined drug routes run through a web of border crossings pointing also to the complex cooperation between various "smuggling cartels and the terrorists." These belong to jihadi organizations such as al-Qaeda, joining forces with local drug lords, developing and greasing their smuggling skids with money all the way to Mexico aiming ultimately to hit the U.S.

With the nature of lawlessness, graft, poverty and disorder in Mexico, enables operatives of such terrorist groups as al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas to operate with impunity. These organizations have turned Mexico into a logistical attack base.
The growing danger is that the militant Islam terrorists have penetrated Mexico. Some of them have ties to smugglers operating in American states bordering Mexico, especially those with connections in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and California.

Experienced anti-terror experts report the Mexican border is the Achilles heel of the Department of Homeland Security.
Islam is on the move in Mexico and throughout Latin America, making dramatic gains in converting the native population, increasing immigration, establishing businesses and charities and attracting attention from U.S. government officials who have asked their neighbors to the south to keep an eye on foreign Muslim groups.
Al-Qaeda and other allied organizations are expanding operations throughout Mexico, establishing both legitimate and criminal enterprises to help fund future attack operations.
According to U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela Charles Shapiro, almost every extremist terror group is now represented in Latin America.

Pentagon officials have confirmed human smuggling rings in Latin America are attempting to sneak al-Qaeda operatives into the U.S.
Anti-terrorism experts say extremist cells tied to Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and al-Qaeda network are operating in Argentina, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Uruguay.
FBI Director Robert Mueller told a congressional panel that illegal aliens from countries with ties to al-Qaeda have crossed into the U.S. from Mexico using false identities.
Mueller said some of the aliens are people with Middle Eastern names who have adopted Hispanic last names before coming into the U.S.
"We are concerned, Homeland Security is concerned about special interest aliens entering the United States," Mueller said.

The U.S. Bush administration officials have previously said al-Qaeda could try to infiltrate the United States through the Mexican border.
Al-Qaeda has become deeply involved in cocaine and heroine trafficking, arms and uranium smuggling, counterfeiting CDs and DVDs and money-laundering activities.
Cash laden Non-Mexicans often are more difficult to intercept because they typically pay high-end smugglers a large sum of money to efficiently assist them in setting up in Mexico or help them across the border, rather than traverse it on their own.

According to the WorldNetDaily many of America's enemies have chosen Mexico as a target to locate and undermine security in the Americas and weaken America politically and strategically. America's various adversaries have chosen Mexico as their infiltration route. And American politicians are opening the doors wide to our enemies with NAFTA and The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) programs.

Robert Grenier, who was head of the CIA's counter-terrorism center, told a press conference in Mexico that the Muslim terrorist organizations see the illegal immigration and drug trafficking networks in the Latin American nations as the most effective way to move people and equipment into the US.
Grenier said that the Bush Administration fears both Hamas and Hizballah may already have sleeper cells operating in Mexico.
Hamas and Hizballah have both threatened in the past to extend their war against Israel to include the United States.

Spanish Language

On your next visit to Panama, Peru or Uruguay communicating will be easy as you read through the basics in Spanish.

The English vowels a e i o u remain similar in writing in Spanish. The alphabets all 29 of them are easy with an addition of 'e' e.g. Ce,de,ge and so on. A rapid one, two, three is uno, dos, tres, going upto 'mil' for 1000 and tres milliones for 3 million.

A dairy of a visitor to Spain:

The next time it rains wear un impermeable (raincoat). After sight seeing you can remove your unos zapatos (shoes) and relax in unas sandalias (sandals). Winters require un sueter (sweater) and una camiseta (T shirt) for summers.

Pan, mantequilla (Bread and butter) for breakfast and some refreshing caf or te (coffee or tea). It is wise to carry some aqua (water).

You could shop for jackets in rosado or azul (pink and blue) respectively or chose a negro (black) sueter. Morado (violet) is a velvety colour and rojo (red) is a favourite.

You could pick gifts for your esposo ( husband) or your (daughter) hija. Your aunt (tia) and sobrina (niece) will have to wait for their turns.

You will surely miss your padre and madre (pa and mom) and you may write to them. Sabado and domingo ( Saturday and Sunday) are cool days with most time resting on your (back) la espalda. With too much shopping lists in your (head) la cabeza washing your (face) la cara will freshen you. Other errands can be done on Lunes - Monday and Viernes - Friday.

The Spanish language was formed from Vulgar Latin with lot of borrowings from Basque, Iberia and Arabic. Change is seen in the language old Spanish and modern Spanish words for e.g. efeto to efecto, licion to leccion, coluna to columna etc. Latin borrowings of original Latin words like bonus and Taurus are bueno to toro in Spanish. Dialects are different as a vela becomes candela though both stand for the candle.

Today, there are many Spanish classes conducted everywhere to help people learn and enhance their compatibility to the fast moving world. It is necessary though however fluent one is in the language to understand various dialects and factors affecting the change in grammar variables. All this calls for a comprehensive study of the Spanish language.

To learn the language better, you can check some good proverbs.
