Thanks to some great advances in technology, it's now possible for any musician to capture their creativity into a recorded song. The best news is you can record and produce your music from the comfort of your home. This is not as difficult as you may think, and nowadays you can produce some music that sounds quite professional, without being an expert sound engineer. Learn 4 Tips for Producing Your Music at Home.

1) Get Your Sound Right Before Recording.

Try to perfect your overall sound before you record your songs. This minimizes the need for post-recording editing. You also want to make sure you use a good pair of headphones and listen carefully to the input stream coming from the microphones you use. You may need to use a mixer to adjust the frequencies. Also, you will want to be careful not to use too much reverb, because you don't want your input to sound muffled.

2) Learn the Capabilities of Your Recoding Equipment and Software One At a Time, and Try Reading Your Manual.

This will help you avoid getting overwhelmed by all of the technical terms you may not bee too familiar with. You will also get a better understanding of how to use your recording equipment and software, so you can get the most out of your recording experienceand produce better recordings. Also, don't forget to read your manual. Although you may tend to toss your manual aside, you'll be surprised with what you can learn with your manual. Reading a manual can really speed up your learning curve, so you can begin producing your own music in no time!

3) Finish Your Songs!

If you are like many musicians, you'll find that you have your hard drive full of "beginnings", "openings" and first-halves of songs that you have never finished. You may work on it for a while, then you run out of ideas, or you get bored with it and start working on a new song instead. This is very common, but it is not a great thing to do.

Be disciplined and finish your songs, even if you seem to have lost interest in them. You should hold off on working on a new song until you completely finish your song. Worse case scenario, if you have a great idea for another song, jot down some notes or do a brief sound recording, then come back to it AFTER you finish the song you've been working on. If you don't do this, you are setting yourself up to have several unfinished songs...therefore making it extraordinarily difficult if not impossible for you to reach your creative potential.

4) ALWAYS Create a Backup Copy of Your Music!

The last thing you want to do is create a masterpiece, then lose it all because your system crashes. ALWAYS create a backup copy of your music recordings. Things happen like power outages, hard drive crashes etc. Don't let these misfortunes rob the world of your unique music creativity. ALWAYS backup your music!

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE - BLOWISH - INFANTS ONE-PIECE

It is estimated that more than 1 million children under the age of eighteen are receiving their education at home. It is impossible to know the exact number of families that choose to keep their children at home instead of sending them to traditional classroom settings. Part of the reason for this is that most states do not have an accurate count of these children.

Families may choose to home school their children for many different reasons. Sometime it is only temporary due to an illness or a cross country move. There are four reasons that children are being educated at home by their families:

  1. They are deeply religious and want the children to be educated with fundamentalist beliefs. Many of these families use the Bible as their main text and use it to teach reading, math, social studies, health, geography and science. Older siblings may help teach the younger children. Consistent beliefs and values are maintained throughout the family. The parents of these children want to ensure that no ideas from outside of the family are introduced to their children without their approval. In years past this group accounted for the largest number of home schoolers.
  2. The family may live in a remote area where schools are not easily accessible. There are quite a few sections of the United States and Canada where this is the case. It may be a two hour or longer ride to a school and some families do not want their children to be on the road for that long, especially when the weather is bad. Many of these children do not attend school until they are in high school.
  3. Children who have survived a traumatic event, those who are going through a serious illness, or a child who has experienced a catastrophic event either at school or at home may be taken out of school for an extended period of time and educated at home by family members. Some of these children return to school within a few months and others continue to be home schooled until they reach the age of majority.
  4. They believe that what they can offer their children is superior to what any formal institution has available. The children in these families may receive professional music or dance classes, sometimes travel throughout the world with their families, or may have a connection with one of the many private universities across North America that offer programs for young people. Many of these children go on to attend universities successfully before they are eighteen years old.
Many states require that you register your home as a home school, while other states require no such identification or registration. At one time it was typical for one adult family member to hold at least some type of teaching credential, but that is now a thing of the past. Textbooks are easily available to anyone who wants to use them in their home teachings. Resources such as libraries, local colleges and universities, and reliable internet information can now make teaching children at home an adventure rather than a chore. While the academic education of a home-schooled child may be enriched, many are concerned that the socialization of these children may be negatively impacted. However, according to the recent studies conducted by a variety of statisticians, the home-schooled child may have a higher level of self-esteem, have a highly developed set of social values and mores, and be more well- adjusted than children who attend regular day classes. Home-schooled children typically spend morning with academics and have afternoons available for organized sports, classes in music, dance, or art, and activities at their place of worship.

Choosing how and where to educate a child can be a decision with far reaching consequences. Much of this decision will be based on the needs and beliefs of the family, the individual child, and the educational system available to the family. By researching all of these factors, families can come to an intelligent decision that will be beneficial to all involved.

English contains many words adopted from other languages. In fact, experts estimate 80% of English words originated elsewhere. The biggest influence on English vocabulary is Latin. An examination of the 20,000 most used words reveals 5,000 words contain prefixes and over 80% of these use one of only fourteen of the many different prefixes available. By learning these important prefixes, you can improve your mastery of the English language. You will be able to discern at least a partial meaning of words you encounter for the first time by understanding the basic meaning of its prefix.

Listed below are the most used prefixes, their meanings, and example words. To get the most out of seeing these prefixes, copy them into a notebook. Write down the prefix, its definition, and several examples of its use. You can add examples by looking for more in your dictionary. Practice using the words in your writing and speaking. Look for words with these prefixes in newspaper, magazine, or books and underline them. The more you engage the word in some way (writing, speaking, or underlining), the better you will remember it.

Ab- (away from) abhor, abject, abnormal, absolve

Ad- (to, toward) adapt, adept, adhere, adhesion

Be- (on all sides, overly) bedeck, beset, besmear, besprinkle

Com-, con-, co- (with, together) comfort, commence, compel, complain

De- (reversal, undoing, downward) deceit, decipher, default, deliver

Dis- dif- (not, reversal) differ, difficulty, disable, dishonor

Em-, en- (in, into, to cover or contain) embrace, embroider, engage, engrave

Ex- (out of, former) exalt, examine, example, excerpt

In- (into, not) incline, inconsistent, indecisive, induce

Pre- (before) prejudice, prepare, prescribe, preserve, pretend

Pro- (in favor of, before) proclaim, procure, produce, profound

Re- (again, restore) renew, resolve, reveal, revert

Sub- (under, beneath) subcontract, subculture, subject, subordinate

Un- (do the opposite of) unravel, unroll, unseat, unskilled

Although Latin is considered a "dead" language by many, it lives on in the English vocabulary. Not only do many existing words originate from Latin, many new words are constructed from Latin prefixes, suffixes, and roots. New words to describe or name scientific processes or discoveries are often formed from Latin. Think of words like computer, internet, and digital radio. For digital television, you need to be familiar with both Latin and Greek, the other big contributor to the English language.

You can learn more about Greek contributions to the English vocabulary in my next article titled "It was Greek to Me: Improving Your English by Knowing Greek Roots".

Neon interior car lights can really perk up your car. It would be a great addition to your car accessories. It can change the character of your car. And if you are participating in a car show competition, then the cinematic glow of your car's interior would definitely improve your chances of winning.

Different Types of Neon Car Lights

There are many types of interior car lights that you can find in the market. In fact, the interior lighting systems of cars are the most sought after market accessories. So, you will never run out of options when you decide to pimp the interior lighting systems of your vehicle.

You can choose from a wide variety of colors, lighting designs and effects. These neon interior car lights can be installed under the dash board or car seats. It can also be installed on the audio panels of your car.

Some neon interior car lights can even be configured to dance in sync with the music from the car audio system. So, you not only get an excellent lighting system, you can also recreate your car to become a virtual dance floor whenever you play music from the radio.

When buying neon interior car lights, you should look for a starter kit that is easy to install. Usually, these starter kits are prefabricated lighting system complete with wirings, switches, and installation panels. Setting it up in your car would be a touch and go procedure.

Always Refer to the Instructions

When installing car interior lights, make sure that the installation instructions and the circuitry diagram of your car are always at hand. The installation manual can guide you on the step by step procedure of interior car lighting setup. On the other hand, the circuitry manual can provides the layout of your car's electrical system.

By having these manuals, you can keep your self and your car away from electrical hazards. You can also avoid wrong installation and faulty circuit system set-up. Threshing out everything could save you lots of money from re-installation and repair.

4 Step Installation Guide

The following basic installation guide can serve only as a general reference. This is to provide you with a general idea on what are involved when installing neon interior car lights.

1. The very first thing you need to do is disconnect all power source of your car. This means disconnecting the plugs that are attached to the car battery. To be sure though, you can disconnect the negative cable and ensuring that it cannot be grounded on any part of your car.

2. Next is to decide where to set up the interior lights. This step is usually dependent on the type of lighting that you have bought.

There are kits that are suitable for dashboards while others are only applicable on the panels of your car's stereo system. Wherever it may be, you need to squeeze your creative juices so that you can install the neon lighting at the best place in your car.

3. The third step involves configuring where to place the toggle switches of your interior lights. It is always best to install it where you can reach it easily. Some neon lighting kits come complete with switches so this step would not pose much difficulty for you.

4. Fourth step is to decide if you want your interior car lights to be in sync with the headlights. When you turn on the headlights, the interior lighting will also be activated. If you want this feature, you have to tap into the wire that activates your headlights. You can find this wire under the dash. You can refer to your car circuitry manual if you are not familiar with the wirings of your car.

However, if you want your interior lights to be independent from the headlights, use the lighting system switch panel and plug it into a power source. Normally, this involves plugging the lighting system switches directly to a main power cable connected to the car battery. In this way, even if your car is idle, the interior lighting system can still work.

After everything is connected, reattach the negative battery cable and start testing your new interior lighting system. If it produces dim lights or below average illumination, you can check the car's wiring setup again for possible loose connections.

These are basically the general steps involved when installing your set of neon interior car lights. After installation, you can now flaunt your card to your friends. You can also participate in a car show and who knows, your car might be the next car show champion.

Against the background of a golden throne hall projected onto a gigantic screen with the melodious music of the Qing Dynasty, a group of beautiful Manchu geges emerges elegantly in a line from one side of the stage, wearing deep blue Manchu midi, dalachi-style headgear, and typical Manchurian-style flowerpot shoes with three-inch heels. Walking out in small graceful steps, they started dancing delicately.

With the stunning gege dress, the graceful music coupled with the strong color of Manchu and the exquisite choreography, the brilliant young dancers from the Feitian Dance School and Lotus Art Group beautifully display the virtues and elegance of traditional females in the Flowering Age of Kang Xi and Qian Long.

The gege dance eloquence and graceful style is actually amazing! It connotes not only the virtues and grace of the noble females, but the entire Flowering Age of Kang Xi and Qian Long is able to match the great age in the Tang Dynasty. The audience could get a true feeling for the portrayal of substantial prosperity, confidence, and spiritual tolerance.

Some of the shows, such as the "Ladies of the Manchu Court" performed by the Fei Tian Dance School, were also eye opening for the Chinese members of the audience. Some were commenting about the fact that they had never seen anything like this before. I could hardly believe my eyes, that those dancers could actually dance gracefully and in harmony wearing those horseshoes also called flowerpot shoes.
When the huge curtain slowly falls down, the classy geges gradually disappear in front of the audience, leaving a magnificent, historic, and permanently lasting picture in their memory.

Besides the traditional Chinese dance and music, this year's show includes depictions of the Chinese heroine Mulan, loyal Song Dynasty general Yue Fei, and many more. It also includes an artistic portrayal of a Falun Gong practitioner being beaten and killed by police in China. The practitioner ascends to the sky after being killed, whereas the policemen who beat her face retribution.

Customer Review: good but some disappointment
dance steps are fine and not too difficult but steps are done to a percussion beat rather than to tunes and real latin music. I really prefer music and so this doesn't feel like dancing, just exercising, and therefore isn't as much fun.
Customer Review: Not what I expected !!
I am a fan of salsa music and i thought that this dvd would be fun to try and put in a part of my work outs. The instructor was just wayyyy too much. too loud , too hyper. she came off very corny at times. lol. the video is just dumb. i dont know ,i just found her annoying. The music was good and all but i just cant take her. I dont do this video often. Once in a blue. It really wasnt as good as thought it was gonna be. i have other crunch video but come on now. they need better instructors.

If you are starting to learn to sing, but haven't found a teacher yet, you may find it hard to know which songs to try out on your own. People often start by picking something by their favourite singer, but all too often this means they are attempting a song that is way too hard for a beginner. For instance, stars like Mariah Carey or Leona Lewis are able to sing very high notes and complicated rhythms, so these may not be easy songs for beginners. That's why I have compiled a list of great songs for beginners.

In my twenty years of teaching singing, I have found the following songs to be of huge benefit to the student when starting to learn to sing. The songs have been selected because they display the following characteristics:

Memorable melody

Not too high

Good length of phrases

No awkward leaps or intervals

Straight forward rhythm

In English

Here's the list:

  1. Amazing Grace (traditional)
  2. Blue Moon (Richard Rodgers)
  3. Summertime (Gershwin)
  4. Autumn Leaves (Josef Kosma)
  5. Top of the World (The Carpenters)
  6. He's got the Whole world in His hands (spiritual)
  7. Oh when the Saints go marching in (trad)
  8. I don't know how to love him (from Jesus Christ Superstar)
  9. On my Own (from Les Miserables)
  10. My Bonnie lies over the Ocean (trad Scottish)
  11. Swing Low sweet Chariot (trad)
  12. You are my Sunshine (Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell)

As you can see, quite a few of these songs are traditional songs. Generally speaking, traditional songs can be a good choice as they tend to be simple without a big range. So, once you have mastered some of the above list, you can easily find more traditional songs to try out, by searching on the internet or going to a music library.

Maximum Coldplay: The Unauthorised Biography of Coldplay (Maximum series)

These audio biographies chart the lives and work of some of rock's most memorable acts, from their early days to their rise to fame. Each CD includes comments and interview material by the artist and is accompanied by an eight-page illustrated booklet and foldout poster.

I do not even know you. I have never met you. You do not know me, yet I will bet that I know something about you. And it is this. You love music with a message. Yes, you do, You cannot deny it. All your life, you have always loved music with a message. So today, I write this article about all music with messages. Over the years that I have listened to music, I have found that music messages make people cry. But that is okay. You will cry for many reasons , and perhaps the best of that is when you cry tears of joy or tears of feeling, the feelings that your words are in that song, perhaps your own message is right there in that song. And perhaps not, perhaps the song is about your friend, your relative, your co-worker, pehaps you hear a song, and you immediately think of someone you know. And perhaps you might think that you might like to know someone like that. Whatever the reason that you love music with a message, this is your own reason.

I write here to day to list some songs with messages, some songs of joy, and other songs of sadness, but every song is the same in that EACH has its own message. Try these songs, and I guarantee you will be moved to tears,to joy, to sadness, to laughter, to stillness, to being stunned, and to being and feeling every bone, spirit, and molecule in your body, but you will feel. These are the songs that make you feel human, and that remind you that you are part of the human race and though we are all different, we are more alike than you know.

Here is my list of moving songs:

  1. What is Truth? Johny Cash
  2. Phantom 309 Red Sovine
  3. Imagine Beatles
  4. I Hope You Dance Lee Womack

At first it may seem difficult to learn how to belly dance, but with a good instructor and patience you can pick up the basic moves of this enticing, ancient dance.

Belly dancing is a fun way to stay in shape for all ages and body types. Belly dancing music was very prominent and ubiquitous in the U.S. throughout the 1950s resulting in dozens of recordings along with quite an assortment of fascinating album covers. The theme was: middle class women, spice up your married lives by belly dancing for your spouse. Belly dance isn't even a completely descriptive term. Middle Eastern dance encompasses so many dance forms, even going into African tribal dances, Latin dances such as Flamingo and more.

When taking classes it has been found that students improve pretty fast and are generally able to learn the basics in a few sessions. Wearing athletic clothing or dancewear is very helpful and can be barefoot or may choose to wear dance footwear such as sandals, ballet slippers, or even ballroom shoes or jazz sneakers. You'll want to make sure that you wear clothing in which your torso and legs can easily be seen such as with yoga pants. For the top a sports bra or other crop top will be necessary.

Movements are fused into combinations or choreography that are open to individual interpretation and stylization. Learning how to belly dance incorporates movements known as "drills" to engrain and help with learning the basics. You will also become familiar with the use of some of the props such as a veil, scarf, and finger cymbals. Moves include shoulder and hip shimmies, hip drops and lifts, snake hips and figure-eight's, rib circles and rib drops, as well as basic dance posture and arm placement. You can probably see why it is important to wear comfortable clothing.

Outside of class a student should practice doing the moves learned for a good 20 minutes each day. This will help to make the basic moves become almost 2nd nature and, as an additional benefit, you'll probably start shedding some of those unwanted pounds! Fast belly dance moves can burn 250-300 calories per hour. Practice your belly dancing until you are confident enough to display your new skill.

Belly dance is a culture; it is a dance form that is highly artistic. It started thousands of years ago as a birth ritual dance, a celebration for birth and new lives. Today it is just as mysterious and appealing as ever.

Don't Panic

You can always tell that a dance form is gaining popularity when you see it on the silver screen. When the Brazilian dance Lambada was the craze, there was actually a movie titled "Lambada" in1989. Patrick Swayze's "Dirty Dancing" popularized a forbidden dance of the same name.

Some other dance movies are:

"Flashdance" (1983) Breakdancing movie

"Saturday Night Fever" (1977) Disco movie

"Fame" (1980) Jazz movie

"The Turning Point" (1977) Ballet movie

"Staying Alive" (1983) Jazz movie

"Footloose" (1984) New Wave movie

Though there are a lot more that could be mentioned, it cannot be denied that most of these movies help disseminate information on the chosen dance topic. For a dance to be featured on film is a good thing no matter what critics say.

It appears the dance form Stepping is also getting widescreen attention. Here are some of the movies on this African American art form:

"School Daze" (1988) musical-drama film, written and directed by Spike Lee, and starring Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tisha Campbell.

Based in part on Spike Lee's experiences at Atlanta's Morehouse College, it is a story about fraternity and sorority members clashing with other students at a historically black college during homecoming weekend. This was the second feature film directed by Spike Lee, and was released on February 12, 1988 by Columbia Pictures.

"Stomp the Yard" (2007) drama film produced by Rainforest Films and released through Sony Pictures' Screen Gems division on January 12, 2007.

Directed by Sylvain White, Stomp the Yard centers around DJ Williams, a college student at a fictional historically Black university who pledges to join a fictional Greek-letter fraternity. The film's central conflict involves DJ's fraternity competing in various stepping competitions against a rival fraternity from the same school. The film's script was written by Robert Adetuyi, working from an original draft by Gregory Ramon Anderson. The film was originally titled Steppin', but to avoid confusion over the 2006 film Step Up, the title was changed.

"How She Move" (2008) Canadian film directed by Ian Iqbal Rashid and starring Rutina Wesley, Cl Bennett, and Romina D'Ugo. The film showcases the emerging street culture of step dancing and the talents of a new generation of Canadian-born actors. The film is produced by Celluloid Dreams, Sienna Films and MTV Films.

Motion pictures through the years reflect the way things were and are at the time of filming. The 1930s depression produced movies on how hard life was, the '70s showed movies on promiscuity, abortion, war and other social issues of the time, and so on.

Because Stepping is a continuously growing art form, documenting it at a certain period in time helps record its progress and changes.

Though most practitioners of this dance would say that these movies didn't do full justice to this art form, the message all these films are trying to relay is the same: Stepping is part of African American culture and is a part of the here and now.

It's called innovation. Innovation in Latin Dance is really not a modern phenomenon. In fact, dance innovation did not begin and end with Eddie Torres or Francisco Vasquez. Although Eddie was one of our foremost contemporary dance innovators, innovation is as old as the Cuban Son or traditional Bachata themselves. In fact, all of the Latin Dance is a product of innovation. The annals are full of examples: Cuban Son, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Cumbia, Bolero, Merengue and Mambo are just but a few.

To define innovation, a device or process created by study and experimentation, the creation of something in the mind.

Since constant innovations of street dance such as bachata is not new, there is a very troublesome trend developing among many of today's bachata dancers. It is the tendency to launch cavalierly off to proclaim true style of bachata dancing, supposedly each better than the last. In fact, far too many of these so-called teachers and dancers are motivated for all the wrong reasons. Some seek ego gratification, money, or fame. Others simply lack the discipline to persevere in a particular dance style while some are just close minded, not to mention territorial, that they refuse to recognize (in a thinking term) other "colors' except black or white.

Many dance teachers are unaware of the inherent complexity, responsibility and sacrifice of valid dance innovation. They fail to realize that innovation is an evolutionary process of methodical modification and refinement, rather than a revolutionary product rendered out of whole cloth. It takes serious passion and countless experimentation. Motivation must come from deep within the soul, heart, and mind.

I hope to give my readers an unbiased look into my own search for and acquisition at dance innovation. I will try to provide a logical overview of a Dance Infrastructure, Dance Thesis, and Dance Research necessary for a logical dance style innovation. I will also share a brief history of how I came to dance the style I dance with bachata.

THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF A DANCE

It is ridiculous to think of developing a new style of dancing without an extensive infrastructure or background in body movements. By infrastructure, I am not referring to superficial excursions into various dance styles. I am speaking about the foundation, core knowledge, and a cornerstone. A knowledgeable foundation can be built only on consistent training, theory and practice. All great innovators were obsessed with experimenting and constant practice, and each had an extensive foundation in the art before even considering innovation.

International Latin Ballroom dancing has played a large part in my early dance history. During those years I have been perfecting the skills and techniques necessary for excellent dancing, and they have helped me understand the complexities of dancing in general. Prior to Ballroom, I've trained extensively in the Martial Arts, studied and familiarized myself with body dynamics and kinetics earning myself a 4th degree Black Belt and a certificate in Fitness Training. For many years, I have been teaching others these same techniques and principles, helping them reach their social or competitive goals. While I embarked myself to spread the bachata dance, I also specialize in other dances like salsa dance, I don't practice ballroom no longer, since I prefer to dance free rather than in a structured manner.

A strong foundation establishes the physical, mental, and creativity of a great dance style. Extensive dance training develops and refines the attributes of the dance (i.e., speed, power, timing, balance, accuracy, fluidity, grace, partner- ability, etc.). A broad intellectual grasp of various dance techniques are critical to any effort to modify and refine. Theoretical and conceptual analyses are touchstones of innovation.

Finally, a strong foundation will begin to open the dancer's inner self to the creative component of dancing. The innovator must become his art. Simply put, there are no shortcuts! Every dance innovator starts at the bottom and works his way up. The greatest were beginners. If you are unprepared to embrace the principles, forget rushing ahead to modify and create. A dance innovator can only succeed with a deep conception of the various movements, techniques, and related elements of dancing. Innovation requires that you learn to walk before you can run.

THE THESIS OF A DANCE

Innovation in every major field is based on a thesis. The thesis may be an aphorism, a concept, a rule, or any other valid reason to modify and go beyond that, which has already been established. Generally speaking, a valid thesis is the culmination of an analytical process. It is not something "thought up" or created on whim or fancy. Every foundational thesis for innovation has origination in what has gone before. For example, in science Einstein's theory of relativity would not have come about without Newtonian physics and the significant prior discoveries in electromagnetic physics. In art, the cubists and abstract expressionists owed much to the discoveries of traditional realists. Bruce Lee wouldn't have had developed his style, Jeet Kune Do, if he hadn't extensively trained in the art of Wing Chun first.

The same is true for dancing! Modifications and innovations in the sciences are based upon scientifically established thesis. Theses for dance innovation may be the result of cultural eccentricities or any number of other factors, including geography, culture and topography. For example, salsa historians attribute the development of mambo timing steps to the clave beat or tumbao. In the same manner, the rapid salsa shines are attributed to the bongos.

Given the important role of the thesis for innovation, it is disturbing that far too many so-called "innovators" set out to create and promote new dance styles without the background, study, and analysis necessary to formulate a valid reason for modifications. I know for a fact that some of these self-proclaimed experts are motivated for all the wrong reasons. For example, the "so called innovator" would discard the origin of the dance because his knowledge of history, tradition and culture is minimal. He develops a modified dance style according to his limited knowledge.

In my case, I have devoted more than 5 years to practicing, studying, researching, and analyzing bachata dance styles. I extensively studied the music, history and culture. My 13 years of experience in the Latin Dance (salsa on1, on2, timba, son, casino, merengue, paso doble, rumba, chachacha, samba, tango) helped a great deal since I came to know bachata dancing at a Dominican Restaurant in New York city. I have watched countless bachata dancers in the clubs and social parties. I have also carefully observed numerous Dominican dancers and even befriended some of them. These experiences led me to the awareness that many essential concepts, methods, and potential styles were NOT being taught or established in the so-called bachata dance classes and workshops. More and more it became alarmingly obvious to me that accurate information was being neglected. My primary concerns centered on the concept of hip movements, partner-ability and basic steps. Side steps became electric slides. Hip movements turned into grinding or humping. And dance partner-ability became stiffly robotic with no sensuality and passion.

Originally, the concept of the bachata dance was formulated based on simplicity, sensuality, sexuality, romance, heartaches and was danced at house parties, backyard celebration, whorehouses and bars. Of course, eventually, bachata music evolved to a more acceptable romantic and passionate music. Thanks to innovators such as Anthony Santos, Juan Luis Guerra, Aventura, Frank Reyes and others. They helped innovate bachata music to what it is today.

THE DANCE RESEARCH

Research is a continuous and painstaking process of observing, analyzing, testing, and documenting information relevant to the innovator's thesis. There are two broad categories of research that, in reality, overlap in very significant ways: academic and practical research.

Academic research is a process requiring dedication, patience, and an insatiable desire to learn. The innovator truly must want to know all there is! Once again, his thesis enters the picture in the all-important role of a beacon, directing him to information that has some relevance and bearing on his ultimate goal. Without this direction he is likely to waste time sorting and separating valuable data from a tremendous amount of junk and misinformation.

Research involves rapacious reading and observing all kinds of dancers. An important thing to note is that the body of printed materials on Latin dance, particularly; salsa dance has evolved geographically over the last 20 years. Instructional DVDs and the Internet have added a whole new and interesting database, and workshops are offered around the world. Bachata information on the Internet is catching up. But let me offer a word of caution: the innovator can't just expose himself passively to these sources. Literature must be dissected and noted. Videos must be viewed over and over again. Music must be listened to and understood. Strategically sound and weak points should be recorded and analyzed in personal journals. And finally, workshops and training programs should be attended with an open mind, balanced with healthy skepticism.

Realistic research thus begins. The innovator's information has been analyzed, cross-referenced, and refined to theoretical applications. It's time to break away from the black board and head for the lab. Obviously there are some difficulties in approaching simple and sound practical or experimental research. Somehow, somewhere, the innovator has to get it right. The dance club is the answer. The innovator will need innumerable social dancing, with all kinds of dancers to test the result of his new dance concept. This is the only way to test the innovator's hypotheses. The bottom line is - the innovator must have the on-hands experience of dancing in the clubs with all kinds of dancers, if he is going to preach it! He must walk the talk!

Finally, once the innovator's academic and practical research have been compatibly merged and his hypothesis adequately tested and proven, he will be in a position to crystallize and articulate a dance truth, in this case, his own style of dancing bachata. Over time this process and the resulting truths will build and evolve. Eventually, if successful, the innovator's research and experiments will lead to the structuring of a complex array of truths. This will be the innovator's dance style and teachings. This may sound easy to some, but I can tell you that it isn't. It didn't come easy for the Mambo King, Eddie Torres to develop Modern Mambo. It wasn't an overnight revelation for Frankie Martinez to develop Abakua style. And certainly, it didn't come easy for Francisco Vasquez with his electrifying LA style of dancing on 1. Of course, last important factors with your innovation; did people like it? Or to be more specific, did she like it?
